"First for Freedom" is North Carolina’s second longest consecutively running outdoor drama, premiering the summer of our country’s bicentennial celebration in 1976. The drama was written by local playwright Maxville B. Williams and tells the thrilling story of the people of Halifax County, as they hosted the Fourth Provincial Congress and adopted the Halifax Resolves, the first official action for independence from England by any colony. These brave people chose freeom even if it meant revolution! The songs of freedom will echo in your hearts. The drama runs for several weekends each summer.
